In King of Rugger, Jones tells of his dramatic rise to fame from schoolboy rugby union in the Gower Peninsula of South Wales to leading points scorer in Wales’ first Triple Crown winning side for thirty-nine years. Equally fascinating is the hunt for his services by rugby league clubs, and his eventual signing at Leeds for a record fee.
Upon turning professional, Lewis Jones became the biggest box office star in rugby league football. In this book, he compares both rugby codes and “tells the innermost secrets of the two games”. He also describes how, in the 1956-57 season, he gained the greatest triumph of his career when he became the first player to score 500 points in a season.
